Many people are looking at businesses they can start and run from a home-based office. One such business that has gotten a lot of focus lately is medical claims billing and processing. Estimates on the income you can make from this type of business run from $20,000 to $45,000 a year. There is little in the way of equipment other than a desk, chair, computer, printer and Internet service that is required to run this type of business. You will have costs involved in the training and software needed to do claims billing but even those costs are minimal when you take into consideration you are starting a legitimate business.
Be aware that medical claim billing scams and misrepresentations of earnings potential by those that promote medical billing opportunities have been targeted by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The law requires that key pre-investment information be offered by these medical billing program providers. This just means you need to be cautious and do your homework but don't give up on a lucrative medical claims business because of some scammers.
If you see ads for opportunities for medical billing businesses through ads in your local newspaper or Internet or giveaway shopper's guides don't assume the claims they make are true. If you see any ad that says you don't need any experience that is a red flag that it might be a scam. Can you think of any health care provider that would hire a person to handle their medical claims without any experience? If they contract their claims billing and processing out to another company, instead of doing it in-house, rest assured they will work with someone who has experience and training. That doesn't mean you can't start this business from home it just means you will need to get the proper training.
