Beware: a monetary monster called insurance fraud is on the prowl and is looking for fresh financial meat like you. Don't get eaten up! Here's what fraud is and how you can fight it. First, you should know and recognize that insurance shenanigans take on many different forms, but there are really only two main ways that people may try to pull one over on you. The first is one that we've probably all heard of (but hopefully never thought about doing). It's where a person fakes or exaggerates an insurance claim to get lots of undeserved money from an insurance company. The company will investigate the claim, but there are many dishonest people out there and every now and then, one gets away with fraud. For example, someone might set fire to his or her own property and then try to make it seem like an accident. That person then calls their homeowner's insurance provider and complains. If the fakery is convincing enough, the person may receive thousands of dollars to cover the damages that were supposedly accidental.
