Insurance needs are different for each person, property or business, so the search for the best agency will be determined on many factors. For this article, we will use car insurance as our example of how to find the best agencies and rates.
Each insurance agency will be the carrier of different insurance companies or just one company. For example, my insurance agent carries insurance for six insurance companies, whereas a State Farm office would only carry that one insurance company. You can either go with an agency you trust and shop for insurance companies they represent, or find an insurance company you would like to have a policy with and then find an agency that carried that company.
No matter which route you choose, take the time to research the insurance company that you will be writing your policy with. Don't ask your agency, since it is in their best interest to have you write a policy with them but instead check with your state's department of insurance for complaints. Big-name insurance companies spend a lot of money advertising, but sometimes their customer service is somewhat lacking.
