Health Insurance Fraud

Health insurance fraud victims of the world, unite! There are millions of us in the United States alone. One estimate put this awful kind of fraud at over $100 billion a year in terms of how much money is falsely made from it.

The number one rule for avoiding insurance fraud - health, car, homeowner's, or any other kind - is to be skeptical. Make sure to inspect every contract with a fine-toothed comb, as it were. Don't let your eyes skip over the grayed-out fine print that insurance companies often put on their forms! Ask them to explain any suspicious practice and to make all their promises in writing. For example, one suspicious practice is when a company tells you that you have to pay premiums in cash - money that can't be tracked. Another practice to be careful about is if the company pressures you to get a policy immediately because of some limited-time offer. Finally, beware companies that demand payment of large sums of money up front as some kind of deposit.
